  ANYTHING EXCITING EVER HAPPEN AT YOUR KINGDOM HALL?

  did anything exciting or alarming ever happen at your hall?

  i remember only funny incidents, like one brother getting up there with his zipper down.

  (i knew alot of brothers after that felt no shame to actually check down there before going up on the podium!

  This is some good stuff! I don't remember anything really funny happening but that didn't stop us from giggling. There were a few times that some of us young girls just laughed instead of giving our talk. It was the kind of thing where you'd stop laughing but as soon as you looked at the other girl, you'd start again. The brother would just tell us when the 5 minutes was over and we'd laugh ourselves off the stage. People seemed pretty understanding about it.

  Some things never change...my sister and I (both middle age) got the giggles in the grocery store last week. People were looking at us--probably thought we'd been drinking.

  Junction-Guy, I've always enjoyed your posts and I lurked here for a long time before I joined. It sounds like you have reached a sort of turning point in your life, where you realize that you have to do something. I just want to say that counseling is a good start. Take the time to find yourself and who you really are. Then, you'll know how to go forward.

  Pathetic Speakers

  this is great.

  i was suffering through an interminably long sunday p.m. public talk (we flip-flopped w/ the other cong--at least sunday a.m. was a little more tolerable because there was still some of the day left to do something).

  the speaker was talking about "physical training being beneficial for a little" and how some exercise was necessary.

  Pathetic speakers were bad and so were the bad readers. You know, the ones who always read the Watchtower or book study paragraphs so slowly and badly that it was excruciatingly painful. Sometimes, I felt like calling out the words (just to help out). The last book study group I went to, the one brother who read had a very limited education and was obviously uncomfortable reading, but as one of the few males, he had to do it. Poor guy. Of course, women can't teach..... Grr.....

  What are yall fixin' for dinner tonite?

  i'll start.. i'm fixin' file' chicken 'n sausage gumbo w/"cajun ice cream," a green salad and cheesy garlic bread.. crabby pants has already begun his "pre-mealtime throat clearings" from the kitchen aromas.. frannie.

  We had plain hamburgers, rice, and some of that green bean casserole that we normally only have at Thanksgiving. Good comfort food!

  Frannie, sometimes when you say Crabby Pants, my mind reads it as Crappy Pants (don't tell him I said so!). I do this every once in a while--see a word like Chesapeake and think it says Cheapskate. Never been dyslexic, but dang, it sure makes for some interesting reading.

  Maybe I don't want to live in Paradise

  when i was a teenager, and really trying hard to be a "super witness" i remember thinking that if all the wicked people were destroyed, how would this change our everyday life.. what happends to the people that supply electricity, water, garbage collection, gas, fuel for cars, mechanics, farmers, cattle herders, etc.... how would we survive?

  if armafoggeten happened in the winter would those in colder climates die?.

  i you were on some sort of medical equipment that required electricity, would you die if there is no one a run to work in the electrical plant?.

  It always sounded like a boring existence to me. How many lions can you pet before that gets old anyway? I always wondered if it would be like the mini-series The Stand, with people gravitating towards jobs they did before. Or would there be no modern conveniences and everyone would go back to a very simple lifestyle.

  we went to a couple of congregations in queens, ny, and then moved to the finger lakes area of upstate ny.

  Thanks for the poem Abandoned--I remember that song.

  Hi, Juni. I've heard of Racquet Lake. It's not in the Finger Lakes. I think (?) it's in the Lake Placid area.

  I've never knitted socks--that heel part looks so complicated. Maybe a class at a knitting store would help. Today I made an apron for my daughter-in-law. It's print material and I put pockets on it. Even though the pockets were cut from a different part of the fabric, they exactly match the print where they were placed on the apron. My sister was quite impressed. She said she couldn't even tell there were pockets until she looked closely. That was a happy little accident--I couldn't probably do that again if I tried. Although I like doing lots of different things, I'm not very expert at any of them.

  Outaservice--my son lives in Rochester (small world). He works at Strong Hospital.

  Frannie, I like it when people can make some money on their crafts. When we were little kids in Queens, I'd make potholders at the rec program after school (the loops were free) and then I'd sell them to the ladies in the neighborhood.

  Hi everyone. I've been reading a while and decided to join in.

  My JW experience: My mom got hooked during a vulnerable period (marriage split up). We went to a couple of congregations in Queens, NY, and then moved to the Finger Lakes area of upstate NY. I've been out for a long time now, but enjoy reading the posts. Luckily no family members stayed in so it was relatively easy to leave. That's one of the reasons I chose Crafty Lady as my name. We're all pretty "crafty" for leaving that cult! Also, I enjoy doing crafts such as knitting, sewing, stamping, cross stitching, etc.

  I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone.
